Minister visits Coleraine College

On Thursday 8th December, Coleraine College welcomed the Education Minister, Mr Peter Weir, accompanied by fellow MLAs Mr Adrian McQuillan and Mr Maurice Bradley and Councillor George Duddy, to the Carthall Road site.

Mr Weir was taken on a tour of the campus and spoke with a range of pupils including the School Council, along with the Head Boy, Ross Vance and Head Girl, Olivia Campbell, who impressed upon him, the need for better facilities and accommodation.

School Principal, Mr Ricky Marsh, informed the Minister of the many recent positive developments at the school, including increased enrolment and higher pupil attainment. Only yesterday this was recognised by ETI who praised the school’s leadership, curriculum provision and pastoral care.

The Principal stressed to the Minster that in order to build on this success there must be significant investment in the College. Mr Marsh clearly outlined his vision to Mr Weir for a new school which would meet the academic and vocational needs of young people in Coleraine and the surrounding area.
