PORTRUSH Harbour was sealed off yesterday afternoon (Monday) following the discovery of what is believed to be a Second World War mortar.
Police in Coleraine received a report of a device being recovered by a fishing boat at around 12:50pm yesterday.
PSNI officers were sent immediately to the scene.
Later, Army Technical Officers were sent to the Harbour area to examine the device.
A PSNI spokesman said: “At this stage, it is believed that the device was of a considerable age and was possibly a World War 2 mortar.”
It is reported that the bomb squad safely detonated the device around 3pm and the all clear was given.
