MEMBERS of the Causeway branch of NHS Retirement Fellowship were in stitches when guest speaker Mrs Alice McAlary visited their recent meeting.
Chairperson, Mrs Kathleen, Presha welcomed Alice and introduced her as a particularly active member of ‘Alliance Youth Works’.
Alice is an accomplished speaker with a repertoire of entertaining anecdotes and stories illustrating her life’s passion – working with young people.
Taking time to include her audience in the entertainment, Alice described her work with children in schools and portrayed her experiences in Poland over the last few years, as she has participated in camps for children from Israel.
Using the gift of song, Alice encouraged the retired NHS workers to participate in the storytelling, which they readily did, and much merriment ensued. All agreed they felt refreshed and uplifted and were keen to learn more about the organisation Alice belongs to.
Vice Chairman Meta Cochrane thanked Alice McAlary for a most entertaining afternoon of amusing stories as well as an insight into the valuable work of the AYW.
New members Mary Stevenson and Elizabeth Gaston were warmly welcomed, as they joined the entertainment.
The Annual General Meeting will be held at the next meeting in the Multi-disciplinary Education Centre, Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, on Wednesday, March 14 at 2.30pm when there will also be a quiz and Bring and Buy sale.
New members are cordially invited to join the group. The only criteria being, they must have been employed in the NHS. We meet once a month for different activities and social outings and the friendships formed here are invaluable For more details of how to join, please contact Secretary Barbara Clyde telephone number 028 2955 7255
