DO YOU know someone in your community that’s worthy of an award?

Coleraine Borough Council this week launched their Community Awards Scheme. And, they’re invting you to nominate worthy groups or individuals for the inaugural Community Endeavour Awards.

The awards ceremony, which will be held at a reception in ‘Cloonavin’ during March, will allow Council the opportunity to recognise the many people who willingly give up their free time and energy for the betterment of their local community.

Nominations are currently being sought for groups and individuals who have made and continue to make a significant contribution to their local area. There are four categories in which a person or group can be nominated within, including, Community Development, Good Relations, Community Safety and the local District Policing Partnership.

Community Development Manager, Julie Welsh is looking forward to a good response to Council’s first ever Community Endeavour Awards: “This new project has been organised to recognise the many hours of voluntary commitment that committees, groups and volunteers dedicate to improving our local communities,” she said.

“Voluntary and community organisations play a vital role in society today, including lobbying for improved access to services, providing social and educational opportunities for local residents and improving good relations within and between communities.

Community development and building good relations can be challenging, therefore we should take every opportunity to encourage the people engaged in this work by praising and recognising them for their effort.”

Group award winners will receive a contribution of £500 towards a community based project of their choice. Each individual receiving an award will be presented a commemorative trophy.
