Peace Group Lenten Breakfast

Some 75 Causeway Coast Peace Group members and friends met in the comfortable surroundings of The Hamill Hall, at Bushmills Presbyterian Church, for their annual Lenten Breakfast.

Chairperson Eleanor welcomed everyone with special mention of Father Austin McGirr, Parish Priest for past 14 years of Star of The Sea Church, Portstewart.

A wonderful breakfast was prepared by Una, Mary and a team of helpers, and enjoyed by all, at the beautifully prepared tables with each one having a delightful posy supplied by Madge.

Following breakfast Father McGirr, gave a short reflection on the meaning of Lent - the word itself is derived from the Anglo Saxon word of lencten, meaning Spring.

By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

Donations received on the morning of the breakfast will be divided between Christian Aid and Trocaire.

The next meeting of the Peace Group will be held on Tuesday 14th March at 10am, in the Huey Memorial Orange Hall, Stranocum, when Padraig O’Tuama, Leader of the Corrymeela Community will speak on “Ways of working together in Uncertain Times”. Everyone Welcome!
