Mrs. Henry’s P1 Class from Portrush Primary School have been settling so well that recently their proud teacher decided they were ready for a special bus adventure day out as a treat and new way of learning!
Excitedly they set off round the beautiful coast road and were delighted when their driver took them safely to their new place of ‘work’, which was none other than their closest Tesco store in Portstewart.
The children were warmly welcomed by staff members Emma and Donna who enthusiastically engaged the children on the specially devised ‘Farm to Fork Trail.’
This involved the children going on a fun veggie hunt and a chilly quick stop at the ‘Frozen’ department where they learnt about preserving fresh food. Happily the trip continued in the warmth of the bakery where delicious aromas filled the air as each child got to sample their favourite fresh bread, just out of the oven. Mmmmm!
The day had even more fun in store as the children got assisted safely up behind the tills and proceeded to check out real groceries coming towards them very quickly on the magic moving conveyor belt! Tesco staff were amazed at the children’s great behaviour and enthusiasm for learning, even at the tender age of four.
In fact, Portrush Primary are now in Tesco’s record books for the youngest ever group visiting with them. Budding entrepreneurs of the future perhaps ? ! Meanwhile, well informed little pupils who are learning in a real hands-on way about the best of local produce in their own community!
