An SDLP Alderman has expressed delight that the St Patrick’s Day event in Portstewart this year was a huge success - enabling different organisations to come together to demonstrate the inclusive nature of our Patron Saint.
The Skerries councillor said: “There was concern about the negative fallout from a previous event and this year, with the help of other volunteers, we managed to put together a programme which I feel extremely proud of and I wish to thank everyone involved for their help and co-operation.
“The activities began with ‘Big Breakfast’ in the Star of the Sea Parish Centre which was organised by the local Gaelic football club, Eoghan Rua who also offered Irish music and dancing.
“The annual ‘Duck Dive’ was a brilliant succes, making this a real community event enjoyed by everyone. I have no doubt that we have laid the foundation for future St Patrick’s Day celebrations which can bring nothing but a positive image to Portstewart and the consequential benefits for our traders, the local community and visitors alike.”
