Sixteen years on from his untimely death in Estonia, the love for road racing legend Joey Dunlop has not waned.

As Christmas rapidly approaches, fans of the quiet Ballymoney man are getting all ‘revved up’ over the release of a onesie which is a replica of those famous red and black Honda leathers.

The flurry of excitement started after Joey’s youngest daughter Joanne posted photos of her nine-week-old son Herbie wearing the special edition Joey Dunlop sleep suit.

Joanne said: “Zhoodz, the company who makes them contacted me first to see if it was ok to make them but I passed them on to Mummy.

“She was more than happy to give her blessing because she thought they were great.

“She asked them if they would make one for Herbie which they did. I absolutely love it!

“It’s still a bit big for him yet but he looks so cute in it. I would actually love one for myself.

“The response to it has been unbelievable, the number of private messages I’ve had from people asking if it was possible to get replica adult onesies is crazy.

“As far as I know they are now making them in adult sizes so I reckon they’ll be inundated with orders!”

Wearing a replica of Joey’s Honda leathers isn’t Herbie’s only connection to the late road racing hero. When he was just a matter of weeks old he posed perfectly in the famous yellow helmet.

“That photo just melts my heart,” added Joanne. “Daddy always wanted grandchildren and Herbie is his eighth. I think he would have loved to see him in his replica leathers.”
