What better way to warm up on chilly December morning than with a good bowl of porridge?

Goldilocks and the Grumpy Bears is a pantomime retelling of a storybook classic performing at the Riverside Theatre Coleraine, with all the songs and adventure thrown in.

Goldilocks gets lost in the woods and on her journey she meets a French fox, and a polite tortoise who steals her breakfast toffees.

Meanwhile, Mummy Bear has prepared delicious porridge for the three bears and they decide to go for a walk while it cools, but someone has forgotten to close the door behind them.

The lost Goldilocks stumbles upon a cosy house with comfy seats, delicious porridge and nice warm beds. As the bears return to find their seats sat in, their porridge eaten and their beds slept in, they chase poor Goldilocks out into the woods but Baby Bear gets lost herself.

After bumping into each other in the woods Goldilocks and Baby Bear become friends, helping each other find their way home. A simple yet classic story line that delivers on the much loved and well known story.

Hannah Pritchard as the charming Goldilocks was ‘just right’ for the part. She was energetic and attentive to the role and the audience clearly took to her.

Also worthy of mention is Alice Sillett as the delightful Baby Bear who gave everything to her role as the lovable, cuddly bear who would eventually befriend Goldilocks in the woods.

These two were the stand out characters, who even welcomed the children in the foyer before the show asking if they knew the story of Goldilocks and encouraging themto join in.

Goldilocks and the Grumpy Bears is a fun and light-hearted trip through the woods. It has charm and entertainment for a very young audience.

Goldilocks and the Grumpy Bears runs until Saturday, December 13 in the Riverside Theatre, Coleraine. For further info and tickets contact the box office – 028 70123123 or riversidetheatre@ulster.ac.uk.
