£17 million is to be invested in the Provice to improve the broadband infrastructure.
The news has been welcomed by MLA Claire Sugden.
“I am particularly pleased as this is an issue which I have been questioning the Minister Foster about for many weeks,” she told The Times.
“I have been approached by many constituents, living in rural areas, who do not have access to adequate and reliable broadband coverage.
“This Programme aims to improve broadband provision to over 38,000 premises; this could be a boost to local businesses.
“In response to my questions the Minister has also mentioned her intention to extend Broadband Vouchers to areas outside of Londonderry and Belfast City Councils.
“Vouchers of up to £3000 could be available to cover installation costs of high speed broadband. Again this is good news for businesses in areas where access to Broadband is a problem.
“Projects like these must be managed properly and efficiently to ensure that the areas which need them the most are not overlooked. I will be seeking clarity from the Minister about how this project will be rolled out to rural areas in particular.”
