MANY of you will be familiar with the Café and Beach shop at the harbour end of West Strand in Portrush, run by the Fullerton family.

What many of you may not be aware of is Sheelagh Fullerton was also a founding member of Home-Start Causeway and indeed its very first home visiting volunteer.

Over the last 18 years, Sheelagh supported the establishment of our family support service throughout the Causeway area and supported several families through those challenging early years.

Drawing on personal experience of being a mother, grandmother, and now a great grandmother,

Sheelagh was able to reassure and encourage young mums in the care of their children.

Many families experience additional stresses through post natal depression, illness, disability and multiple births etc. Sheelagh’s calm and positive outlook on life kept many a mum going.

Sheelagh was also valued for her assistance on the management committee of Home-Start Causeway and on numerous fundraising events. Hospitality is one of her nicest qualities.

Many an encouraging word has been spoken over a welcome cup of tea.

After 18 years, Sheelagh has finally decided that the time has come to retire from Home-Start.

However, in doing so she would like to encourage others to take up where she leaves off.

Using her own business and personal experience, Sheelagh supported families, volunteers, staff and committee in Home-Start.

If you have parenting experience and like Sheelagh have a love of family life, you too could make a difference to young families in your own community and join the Home-Start Team.

Home-Start Causeway would like to thank Sheelagh for all her support and guidance over the years.

“We wish her a very happy and healthy retirement,” a spokesperson said.
