Suspended jail term for banned Coleraine driver

A steel fixer banned from the road was driven to his work by an employee but whilst waiting for a cheque to clear and he couldn't pay the worker, the employee failed to show up and instead the man got behind the wheel.

Joel Alexander Tweed (49), of Kenton Drive, Coleraine, went to Toomebridge to fulfil a work engagement but was caught on the way home by police on October 21, Coleraine Magistrates Court heard on Monday, November 14.

At court he admitted charges of driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance and was given four months in jail, suspended for three years and banned from driving for three years.

Defence solicitor Denise Gillan said her client is hard working and is now employed as a foreman in Belfast and gets the 5.50am train from Coleraine.
