The gaelic player who tragically died during training on Thursday night was from the Coleraine area.
Steven Deeney was a member of Magilligan GAC.
Steven is a former pupil of St Joseph’s College in Coleraine.
It is understood he was in Limavady training with his team mates when he collapsed.
Saint Aidans Club chairman Peter Mullan said the club and entire Magilligan community was in deep shock at the death of the young father-of-one.
“We are totally shocked,” Mr Mullan told the ‘Journal’.
“Steven was the heart and soul of the club, and he was very active in anything that was going on in the club.
“He was a delight to have around and he was just full of life. It’s a great loss to the club and to everyone. He was a much loved and respected club member, and Steven will be sadly missed.”
Mr Mullan said on behalf of the club he offered sincere condolences to Steven’s family, his friends, team mates and the entire St Aidans family.
The Club’s Facebook page has been flooded with tributes expressing sadness and condolences.
One post read: “Condolences to all the Deeney family and friends. Rip Steven you were a gentleman.”
Saint Aidan’s GAC is expected to make a statement later today.
