SEAN McCarry, Regional Commander for the Community Rescue Service (CRS), has been selected to represent Co Londonderry in the Calor Community Champion Award Scheme.
The awards are an all-Ireland competition to celebrate local heroes in our community.
The prize fund amounts to more than 10,000 euros and the winner will receive a bursary of 7,500 esuro for his or her charity.
Sean, from Portstewart, has been nominated in recognition of his tireless and inspirational voluntary work for the Community Rescue Service.
All of Sean’s free time and energy is devoted to the setting up and maintenance of a variety of community support services ranging from crisis and suicide intervention, rural and urban search and water rescue.
He is also committed to raising awareness of issues such as suicide, depression and mental illness.
His enthusiasm and drive are relentless and he is an inspiration to others.
He has built up teams of dedicated and selfless volunteers who devote their free time to enhancing the safety of everyone in their local community.
Sean says he was surprised and delighted at both being nominated and selected as a finalist and has stressed that winning the award would not only be a great accolade for the Community Rescue Service but would also provide a welcome boost to a service that relies totally on the fundraising activities of its volunteers.
