First it was G-Mac, now it’s Wee Mac. Superstar golfer Graeme McDowell and his wife are expecting a baby girl, The Coleraine Times can reveal.

The 2010US Open champion has confirmed that his wife, Kristin, is pregnant with their first child - a girl - and the due date is the end of August.

G-Mac says he learned on New Year’s Day that his wife was pregnant, shortly after they returned from seeing his family in Portrush.

They were married in October in the Bahamas.

August promises to be a busy time for the dad-to-be because of the FedEx Cup playoffs and the Ryder Cup inScotland.

His wife has a five-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.

McDowell’s father, Kenny, confirming the news, said: “The baby is expected at the end of August.

“It will be our sixth grandchild and we are delighted.”

Close friends and family attended the couple’s low-key wedding in the Bahamas last autumn followed by a celebration in 55 North Restaurant at Christmas.

The current World Ranked No15 joked last year that he had “overachieved” when Kristin agreed to become his wife.

According to sources, McDowell had designs on the 33-year-old brunette from the moment he hired her company to work on his palatial Lake Nona home almost three years ago.

An interior designer by trade, Kristin met with the Ryder Cup star to consult on the plans for his home and he was instantly smitten.

The pair began dating and McDowell brought her to Portrush, where she was given the seal of approval by his parents Kenny and Marian.

McDowell proposed to Stape in October 2012, using the 200m high helipad at the seven-star Burg Al Arab hotel in Dubai to pop the question.

He later revealed: “I did it properly, getting down on one knee.

“She had no idea what was going on and was shocked and stunned. I even found myself getting a little bit emotional.”

McDowell’s friend, the former Radio Ulster presenter Alan Simpson, said: “Kristin is a lovely girl and Graeme’s parents adore her.”

G-Mac hopes to make a major impact in this season;’s maors, the FedExCup and Ryder Cup.
