ADHD announce new funding

A grant of £10,277.40 has been awarded from the Causeway Coast and Glens Policing and Community Partnership Small Grants programme.

This grant will enable Phoenix ADHD to run a 20-week programme for young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The programme will consist of workshops, activities and training, which address issues faced by young people with ADHD, which make it difficult for them to reach their full potential and be fully integrated in their community network.

A grant of £15,000 was also awarded from the Foyle Foundation who stated that they were particularly interested in the education aspect of the support that Phoenix provides for young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The grant will be used during 2016/2017 towards running costs of the education support which the charity provides to schools for young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

The charity was also awarded a grant amounting to £2,500 from the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland towards the cost of facilitating the Phoenix Youth Forum. This will be used towards facilitation costs, OCN Training in Peer Leadership and a residential trip.

The Forum was introduced in 2015 to contribute towards the development of support and activities for young people with ADHD.

Kaye pointed out that: “Contrary to previous comments made in the Press, Phoenix ADHD did not have funding withdrawn. However, a further funding application made to the BIG Lottery Empowering Young People Programme, which previously funded the charity, was not successful. As a result of current austerity cuts, competition for funding is very competitive and preference is usually given to new projects.”
