Beattie hails Council's Irish language support

The decision taken by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to support minority languages throughout the borough has been welcomed by SDLP Councillor Orla Beattie.

Councillor Beattie, an Irish speaker teaching in Donegal and who chaired the Irish language committee for five years in the former Limavady Borough Council, is dedicated to promoting all minority languages, including irish.

Speaking after the council meeting, Councillor Beattie said: “This was the right decision for the borough. We will continue to use our existing community and cultural resources to enable people to access minority languages.

“The Irish language has experienced a recent revival and is being used increasingly throughout the new borough. I am pleased the importance of minority languages has been recognised tonight.”
