'˜Greencastle ferry service is a major boost for local tourism'

Alderman Maura Hickey said that Council is pleased support the Ferry service which currently runs between Magilligan Point on the Causeway Coast and Greencastle in Donegal.

A number of improvements have been made to the service under the new management of Frazer Ferries.

With prolonged operating hours during July and August, the continuous roll on/roll off shuttle is offering non-stop sailings back and forth at newly reduced prices.

Mayor Hickey said: “We are delighted to be associated with Frazer Ferries.

“Having the Lough Foyle Ferry up and running again is a major boost for tourism in our area, linking the picturesque Wild Atlantic Way to the beautiful Causeway Coastal Route.

“The service will increase tourism and economy on either side, initially creating 15 new jobs and will generate increased traffic for local business in the area.

“Taking the Ferry, will significantly reduce the driving time between Belfast/Dublin and Inishowen whilst linking two of the world’s greatest coastal drives, the Causeway Coast and the Wild Atlantic, with views of Rathlin Island and Scotland in the distance. “

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their hard work, the Ferry is beautiful, the views are spectacular and I believe it has a bright future ahead.”
