The North Coast has some of the best beaches in Europe which attracts thousands of visitors every summer. Coleraine Borough Council welcome everyone to come and enjoy the Borough’s award winning beaches and remind beach users of the need to be cautious when enjoying the water.
Mark Strong, Countryside and Marine Manager at Coleraine Borough Council commented, “The Borough of Coleraine boasts five blue flag beaches and two seaside awards, making the North Coast a popular choice for those who enjoy quality beaches and the great outdoors.
“I’d like to remind residents and visitors heading to the beach this summer to brush up on their beach safety skills, especially during the busy summer period.
“To ensure optimum safety I encourage beach users to use a lifeguarded beach and to familiarize themselves with the hours covered by the RNLI lifeguards. Lifeguards will be present from 11am to 7pm Monday to Sunday during the summer months at Downhill, Castlerock, Portrush West Strand, Portrush East Strand and Whiterocks. Lifeguard hours of service are displayed on beach safety signage at the entrances to the beaches and also on various websites including www.colerainebc.gov.uk and www.beachni.com.
“It is also important that beach users are aware of hazards such as rip currents and pay attention to warning flags, which identify swim zones. No one should enter the water when the red flag is flying. If in doubt seek advice from the lifeguards and read the beach safety signs located at our beaches.
With so much to enjoy at the North Coast beaches there is nowhere better to relax on a sunny day. Coleraine Borough Council encourages every-one to keep safe this summer and practice beach safety.
