McQuillan welcomes care home investment in Garvagh

East Londonderry MLA Adrian McQuillan has said that the news that the Presbyterian Church is to buy over the former Four Season home in Garvagh is a '˜much needed boost for the area'.

Earlier this week, the Presbyterian Church announced that they would be investing £1.5 million in the Kilrea road home.

“I am delighted with this news, it is great news for local families and those that work in the care sector,” said the Garvagh based MLA.

“I understand that the refurbishment will see the creation of 50 en suite rooms with a special unit for those with dementia, it is critical that we have the resources available to look after our elderly,” he said.

The investment in the Garvagh home will involve the relocation of Presbyterian Church in Ireland’s (PCI) services from its Londonderry and Portrush residential care homes, Ard Cluan House and York House, which will be sold.

MLA McQuillan went on: “I understand that staff and relatives will be kept informed along the process about the move from the other two homes, this is vital, as it could be potentially an unsettling time for those involved.”
