Games of Thrones actress, Michelle Fairley says she is ‘humbled’ to become patron of the charity set up to build a memorial garden in Coleraine.

The Coleraine woman, whose family own the well known bar, is best known for her role as Mrs Granger in the Harry Potter films and Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones.

Michelle, who now lives in London, agreed to become patron of the charity after her brother Mark contacted her about the proposal.

Andrea McAleese who is behind the idea, told The Times that she is thrilled that Michelle has agreed to come on board.

“I know that Michelle doesn’t do things like this, she is a quiet girl who doesn’t like the limelight, so it is great that she is backing the garden.”

Andrea first floated the idea about a memorial garden on facebook last year.

Sadly Andrea lost her little girl Roma back in 2009. Roma was just three.

But, in a bid to help others, the inspirational Coleraine mother felt that the garden would benefit other parents who have lost children and help with the grieving process.

A site for the garden near Coleraine Borough Council’s Headquarters has been put forward.

Council officials are due to make a decision on the location in the coming weeks.
