Following last week’s announcement that St Joseph’s College in Coleraine is facing closure in a radical shake up of post-primary Catholic education in Coleraine, a Facebook campaign and an online petition have been started to save the school, that was last year named the best secondary school in Northern Ireland.
Under the proposals, there will be no admission from Year 8 at the Beresford Avenue school from 2015, and closure would take effect from August 31, 2017. The Facebook page, ‘Save St Joseph’s’ already has over 1,000 likes and over 400 people have signed the petition online. Former students of the secondary school from across the globe have been leaving comments about their time at the school.
One former pupil wrote: “St Joseph’s is an amazing school, full of teachers who truly believe in, and care for each and every pupil that walks through the door.” FULL STORY P24
