Concern says thanks to Times readers

Dear Editor,

On behalf of Concern Worldwide, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the readers of the Ballymoney and Moyle Times for their support. During 2013, the people of Ballymoney and Moyle gave a total of £177,159 to Concern.

This generosity is not taken for granted. It is what makes our work possible, and I feel it is important that our supporters know how much we value their commitment. Special thanks should also be given to our local support groups and volunteers who continue to give up their time to raise vital funds for Concern.

Last year, you helped us tackle some tough challenges. After Typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines, our supporters responded generously, helping Concern provide emergency aid to thousands of people affected. We have also been responding to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and Lebanon. Despite the complex environment, operations are now up and running and we are providing families with blankets, stoves, fuel and clothes, - life-saving essentials in the harsh winter they have faced.

As well as our emergency work, we also place great emphasis on long-term development projects, empowering people to tackle hunger and lift themselves out of poverty. In 2013, your kind donations enabled us to buy lifesaving food and train health workers in Kenya so they can treat malnourished children as well as providing tools and livestock to farming communities in South Sudan and Ethiopia. By combining our expertise with local knowledge, Concern develops sustainable projects that give people the chance to tackle hunger in the long term.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the readers of the Ballymoney and Moyle Times all the best for 2014.

With warmest wishes,

Peter Anderson

Head of Concern Worldwide,

Northern Ireland.
