ANGLING: Bann Estuary Angling Association going from strength to strength

SINCE its inception from December last year membership of the Bann Estuary Angling Association has gradually built to a respectful number in such a short time.

Mainly consisting of experienced anglers, new anglers and a small number of juniors, the Association's aims are to bring all anglers who use this part of the Bann into a recognised body to discuss such matters as environmental issues, instances of speeding and discourteous behaviour, which can cause danger to small boat owners and wading anglers.

Some progress has already been made on the latter issues and a further meeting has been arranged with the Chief Executive of Coleraine Borough Council to further investigate the possibility of having repeat offenders being taken off the river permanently.

In respect of the fishing the Association brings with it a camaraderie which is enjoyed by all who belong to it, despite the poor catches in recent years.

For those who may decide to join, membership cards, club rules and embroidered badges with the Association's logo are now available on receipt of membership fees. Information on this can be obtained in any one of the two tackle shops in Coleraine or from committee members.

The Association intends to have at least three social functions and a small number of competitions during this season.

New members will be made very welcome.
