Bannsiders Open the season with an away victory over Portglenone

It was a great start from the Lodge Road men, who had a few new faces in their side, as they opened up a 25 shot lead in the early stages of the game, before extending that advantage to 34 shots at the halfway mark. The visitors narrowly increased their advantage to 36 shots with five ends remaining, as they ran out eventual victors by a hefty 49-shot score line in the end up.

Over on rink two, Jonny Calvin’s four had a very good win over Chris Jones’ quartet. It was a good start for the visitors in the early stages of the game as they were five shots to the good before really clicking into gear with some heavy scoring to increase their lead to 14 shots at the halfway stage. Archie Robinson, Matthew Steen, Owen Steele and Jonny continued to play well and increased their lead by the 16th end to 15 shots. Calvin’s rink didn’t concede another shot for the rest of the game as they sealed a superb 33-11 victory.

The rink of Paul O’Neill, Trevor Steele, Alan Irwin and Ally Davison had a tough battle against Joe Moore on rink one. It was a decent start for the visiting quartet as they opened up an early two shot lead before slipping to a four shots behind at the halfway point. Davison’s men kept battling and they soon reduced the margin to three shots with five ends remaining before slipping to a narrow 16-14 defeat.

It was another good win for Coleraine on rink three as Victor Dallas defeated Eamon McCann. Jordan Dallas, Mark Broderick, Jimmy O’Neill and Victor were seven shots to the good after five ends played, having claimed a count of seven shots on the 5th end. The Lodge Road men soon extended their advantage to 13 shots at the halfway stage as they looked like running riot. However, the home quartet dug in and reduced the arrears to 11 shots with five ends remaining before Dallas’ men eventually sealed a very good 29-13 victory.

Over on rink four, Ian Ross’ four claimed a thoroughly deserved victory against Mark Jones’ rink. It was a blistering start early on as the Coleraine men opened up an 11 shot lead before the home side reduced that advantage to seven shots after 10 ends. Mark Mason, Basil Kennedy, David Gaile and Ian Ross increased their lead to 13 shots with five ends remaining before sealing a very good 27-14 victory.

The Bannsiders have a home game this Saturday against City of Derry.
