Coleraine Bowling Club hosted their annual ‘Opening of the Green’ on Friday 4th April, with a large number of members, family, friends, sponsors and dignitaries gathered at Lodge Road to open the 2014 season.

Honorary Secretary Jordan Dallas welcomed everyone to the club before going on to mention that 2013 had been a special year for the club with the Senior team bringing back the Irish Senior Cup to Coleraine for the first time in 92 years and for the second time in their history following the thrilling victory over Ballymoney back in August at Belmont BC.

Jordan went on to say that he wished all the teams similar success this incoming season and hopefully the club could add to their haul of 63 trophies, adding that a lot of hard work had went on during the off season to further the facilities at Lodge Road before thanking the sponsors for their continued support.

The secretary then introduced President Basil Kennedy’s partner, Jean who threw the silver jack and first bowl to officially open the green for the new season before the incoming Vice-President, Jordan Dallas presented Jean with a bunch of flowers on behalf of the club.

Lady President Rosemary Lyons officially opened the green for the Ladies Club before outgoing President, Nora Lafferty presented Rosemary with a gift on behalf of Coleraine Ladies.

President Basil then unfurled the club flag to complete the opening ceremony before the members and guests retired to the clubhouse for the speeches and meal.

President Basil, Lady President Rosemary, Deputy Mayor Mark Fielding and NIPBA Vice-President Noel Linton all spoke and wished the club all the best for the new season with Mark and Noel congratulating the club, once again, on the historic Irish Cup victory and bringing great honour to the town.

Thanks must go to Jean, Rosemary and the rest of the Coleraine Ladies who prepared and served a lovely meal to complete another great evening at Lodge Road.

A raffle was held in aid of the ‘Help Wee Oliver Walk’ appeal, with the club raising £217 and our thanks must go to all who contributed. Coleraine members are reminded that the panel meetings are this Monday, the 14th April, starting at 7pm with the Senior team.
