The veteran defender joined the Bannsiders in 2013 and boss Oran Kearney feels his experience is invaluable to the club.

“I’m delighted ‘Dougie’ has agreed another year’s contract,” he said.

“He has been a terrific influence around the club in his time here, particularly with the younger players.

“I know all those who have made the breakthrough to the first team over the last couple of seasons have learned so much from him.

“Speaking to Lyndon Kane after making his debut he said his job was made so easy as he just did what ‘Dougie’ told him to do.

“Experience like that is vital for young players and will help them develop.

“To be fair to Stephen I felt he had a really good season last time out and he was just behind Neil McCafferty and Ian Parkhill in terms of consistency and performances, so this new deal is just rewards for that.”
