'I can't ask for any more from the players,' says Ports boss Taylor

The win came just four days after his side beat Wakehurst 2-0 at Mill Meadow.

The wins gives the Seahawks a fighting chance of survival in the league, which will see five teams relegated under a new format.

Goals from Lee Forgrave and Chris Hanson secured the win on Saturday, but Queen’s found the net ten minutes from time to leave the final moments of the game nail biting for Taylor, his players and the home supporters.

“We have been playing very well since the second half of the Newington game two weeks ago.

“We played very well last Tuesday night against Wakehurst, and again on Saturday.

“The 2-1 score line against Queen’s didn’t reflect the tie.

“We were on top for most of the game, and we should have won by more.

“Again we were guilty of not taking our chances in front of goal, but that has been the story all season,” admitted the Ports boss.

Portstewart entertain Limavady United tonight (Tuesday) in what Taylor describes as ‘another must win tie’.

“They are fighting for the championship title, so we know they will be up for the game.

“Any encounters between us and Limavady have been pretty even.

“Unfortunately we haven’t taken any points off them yet this season, so I am hoping that my boys will be up for the game.

“Limavady slipped up against Sport and Leisure on Saturday, and I have no doubt that they will be wanting to bounce back again.

“We have a couple of injury concerns, Luke Bradley is a wait and see and Johnny Stewart came off on Saturday with a ankle strain.”

Taylor went on: “It’s all about playing for pride now.

“I just want to get out of the bottom two, if we can do that, we will see where it takes us.

“Results on Saturday didn’t go our way with both Glebe and Dundela winning, but I just feel that if we win our remaining four games we are giving ourselves a fighting chance.

“I have to pay credit to the players, they are giving 100 percent every game.

“You can see that they hurt when things don’t go our way. They are a good bunch of boys who work hard for each other.

“We have players going the extra mile to make sure they are available for Saturdays and mid week games, and that’s all I can ask for at this stage.

“The next four games are must win for us.

“We have Dollingstown away on Saturday, and Sport and Leisure next Tuesday night.

“The final game, against Dundela at home could be the clincher for both sides.”

Earlier this month, Taylor revealed that he was considering his future at Seahaven, a Club he has served for 25 years.

He hasn’t made any decision yet, he tells: “I have said that if we finish in the bottom two then we deserve to go down. Any other year a team finishing out of the bottom two would survive. That is my aim and we will see where it takes us,” he said.
