A late goal by David McDaid salvaged a point for Coleraine in their opening day clash with Ballinamallard United at The Showgrounds.
McDaid fired home with seven minutes to go to earn the Bannsiders a draw against a Ballinamallard side who extend their unbeaten run over the Bannsiders to nine games.
It looked like Jason McCartney’s first half strike would be enough to earn the Ferney Park men all three points until McDaid popped up late on.
Ballinamallard almost handed Coleraine the opener on 22 minutes as Mark Stafford’s poor back pass left Murphy in trouble. The ever alert Davy McDaid quickly closed him down, the keeper’s attempted clearance cannoned off the striker before hitting the post and back into the hands of the relieved Murphy.
It was the visitors though who broke the deadlock just before the break as the impressive Anthony Elding flicked on McMenamin’s free kick and Jason McCartney dinked the ball over Eugene Ferry.
The Bannsiders almost drew level straight away as McNeill crashed a powerful free kick off the cross bar.
Coleraine finally drew themselves level on 83 minutes as Neil McCafferty’s clever through ball found McDaid and he rounded the keeper before slotting home. And he almost won it in the dying seconds only to be denied by a good save from Murphy.
