OGILBY IS ‘PROUD’ TO LEAD THE BANNSIDERS...

IT is almost a year since David Ogilby was handed the captain’s armband by Oran Kearney ahead of his first game in charge of the club at the Ballymena Showgrounds.

On Saturday Ogilby will lead his team mates out again at that venue looking to join an illustrious list of trophy-winning Coleraine captains.

“I’m very proud to captain Coleraine because I know I’m following in the footsteps of some great players and I’d love to join the list of those who’ve lifted a trophy as captain,” he told Times Sport.

“It’s also my first senior cup final, so it would be a big day for me even without captaining the team.

“Ever since we beat Cliftonville in the semi-final it has been in the back of everybody’s mind and it would be very easy to get distracted, but to everyone’s credit, we’ve put together a good run and are heading into the final in good form.

“It will be a great day and I’m sure there’ll be a great atmosphere. The supporters have been fantastic throughout our cup run and the demand for tickets shows how much they’re looking forward to it.

“We haven’t had an easy run to the final; apart from the first round we’ve played all our ties away from home and we’ve had to beat two of the country’s top teams in Glentoran and Cliftonville to get here.

“I’d have to say scoring the winner in the quarter final at The Oval was probably one of the highlights of my career to date. Johnny put such a good ball in that as soon as I got my head on the ball I knew it was in.

“Getting the winning goal in such an important game was an amazing feeling and as I say, one of the best moments of my career, but lifting the trophy on Saturday would be even better.”
