Lisburn Distillery were the visitors to Seahaven on Saturday for a pre season friendly with Gary Taylor’s Portstewart.

Goals from Ricky Dunlop and Owen Moody sealed the win for the home side, in what was a fine performance by the Sea Hawks.

Ports boss Gary Taylor was buzzing with delight after the tie.

“Not only was it a great result against a former Premiership side, but it was a great display from Portstewart.

“I know that pre-season results don’t count, but we were really thrilled with the performance.

“We’ve four new players in - John Neill, Lee Forgrave, Ryan Doherty and Nigel Turne, so the team is adjusting, but we kept our shape well and to be honest we deserved the win.”

Portstewart have drawn Larne in the League Cup on August 13, before that they will meet derby rivals Glebe Rangers in the first game of the season.

“We’re all really looking forward to the new season,” told Taylor.

“We’ve been putting in the hard work in training, and it just showed on Saturday how well we can play.

“We just need to carry this into the new season now.

“Last year we were up and down, but we’ve got good experienced players in this year, and I think that’ll really boost us.”

*Portstewart FC hosted another ‘acoustic night’ on Friday, which proved to be a major success.

The fundraising committee are hoping to make this a regular event. Watch this space for more details!
