Portstewart boss set to read the riot act

Portstewart boss Gary Taylor said he could take no positives from a poor display at Newington on Saturday.

The Ports slumped to a 2-0 defeat, and are sitting joint bottom of Championship Two.

“It’s the worst we have played, we just didn’t get going, and they weren’t even a good side,” said the dejected manager.

“They went down to ten men after half an hour, and to be honest we looked like we were down a man.

“We didn’t create much, we just lacked that spark,” he said.

Chances from David Healy, Stuart Millar and Craig Moore tested the Newington keeper as the first half concluded, but two goals, one from the spot, in the second half secured the win for the Shore Road outfit.

The Seasiders take a break from League action this week when they travel to Limavady United in the North West Junior Cup.

“We have three big games ahead,” explained Taylor.

“Limavady in the Cup, then Coagh and Glebe in the League - if we can’t get ourselves psyched up for games like these, then there is something badly wrong.

“I did read the riot act on Saturday, but there is more to come,” admitted Taylor.

Portstewart welcome back Lee Forgrave, Matt Hynds and Steven O’Neill for Saturday’s tie.

“There will be changes this week, we have Lee and Matt back from suspension and Steven O’Neill, who has been doing very well for us, all back available this week.

“I am hoping that we can do much better this week.

“Saturday is the worst we have played in a long time. We had all the possession but we did nothing with it.

“Saturday is as bad as we have been, I can take no positives from the game,” he said.

Glebe 4-0 Sport and Leisure

It was another bad day at the office for Glebe Rangers boss Jason Wilmont as his side lost 4-0 at home to Sport and Leisure in the league.

What was more disappointing for Wilmont than the loss of valuable home points, was the number of errors.

“It was unbelievable, it’s not getting any easier,” said Wilmont afterwards. “We played well and created decent chances but that’s two games in a row and eight goals against us. All four of Saturday’s goals were from individual errors. There was some crazy defending, it was like primary school stuff. We were fortunate this weekend that other results went for us but we can’t depend on other teams. October will be massive for us. We play Portstewart, Tobermore, Moyola and Wakehurst and its going to be crucial that we take points.
