FOOTBALL: Glebe's impressive form continues
GOING into the start of the season Gareth Scott challenged his Glebe Rangers side to go through the first month of the campaign unbeaten.
And with one game remaining in August, they are on course to do just that.
Glebe continued their wonderful run of form with a resounding 5-1 victory over Chimney Corner in the CIS Cup on Saturday.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, both Scott and his captain Adam McCart said Glebe were capable of performing better on the day - an indication of just how far the Ballymoney outfit has come in 2010.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the start of the season," Scott told Times Sport.
"As a couple of well-known local poets - Davy John McBride and Alastair Stevenson - said, the Glebe family couldn't have had a better start to the season."
Saturday's result followed Monday evening's battling point away to HW Welders in the Championship.
"We were maybe not just as sharp as we could have been albeit we scored five goals," he said.
"The performance on Saturday was slightly jaded after the exertions of Monday night.
"The game against the Welders was a template of how to play against a good team in the Championship.
"But it was pleasing to be able to give playing time to some of the other members of the squad such as Andy Mooney and Kirk Brace, who played very well.
"Andy has made the step up and scored two great goals.
"It's great to have that strength in depth at the club."
Scott also singled out Neil McVicker for praise who he said worked "exceptionally hard" throughout the game.
"I took him off with 25 minutes to go and I probably made a mistake in doing that," he said.
Glebe got off to the perfect start, Andy Mooney opening his account in the first minute of the game.
Trevor Parkhill notched home a fine individual goal on 40 minutes before Mooney struck again on the eve of half-time to make it 3-0.
Slick passing by the hosts led to goals in the second half from Neil McVicker and another from Parkhill, with Chimney Corner bagging a consolation goal.
Scott said he was delighted with all three of the club's sides winning their respective games on Saturday, the Reserves and Old Boys also sealing victories.
Next up for Glebe is a Steel and Sons Cup fixture at home to Bloomfield.
Scott said: "Bloomfield are a good amateur league side and they will be very dogged.
"They have a few very decent players among them.
"At Glebe we prepare for every game in the same way, whether it be Linfield or Bloomfield.
"I certainly will be looking for us to get back to our Championship form with a big performance on the day."
