FOOTBALL:Organisers delighted to reach record total

COLERAINE fans once again showed their giving side as they helped raise £1,700 for the Physiotherapy Department at the child Development Centre, Robinson Hospital Ballymoney.

The fantastic total was raised at the annual charity friendly between Coleraine and Garvagh, which was played at Clyde Park last Friday night.

The crowds were out in force for the annual season curtain raiser with Bannsiders eager to get a frist glimpse at new signings Rory Patterson, Michael Hegarty and Aaron Canning.

And they weren't disappointed with what they saw as all three showed them a glimpse of what's to come.

Patterson in particular earned a glowing report from the fans present as he showed his prowess in front of goal with three clinical finishes in the glorious sunshine.

Event organiser Alfie Gurney was thrillied with the attendance and thanked all those who turned up and who sponsored the game.

"Once again I'd like to thank everyone who came along and helped raise such a magnificent total for a very worthwhile cause," Alfie told Times Sport.

"I'd also like to say a big thank-you to everyone who so generously gave sponsorship for this game too. I also have to thank both teams who gave it their all on the night and a special thanks to Garvagh FC for their wonderful hospitality - it was very much appreciated.

"To raise 1,700 on the night is a tremendous achievement and is almost double that of last year. This money will be put to great use.

"We now look forward to next year when I hope we can go even better and raise even more money for another worthwhile charity."
