The striker has missed the last four games after fracturing ribs and puncturing his lung against Portadown in January.

But he is hoping to get the all clear from the doctor this week to start playing again.

“The recovery is coming along well, I’m hoping to be back within the next couple of weeks,” he said.

“It’s been a long enough time out, but everything has went well enough so far.

“I go back to the hospital again on Tuesday, so hopefully I’ll get the all clear then.

“The lads have been brilliant of late, it’s great to see as we want to get as high up the league as we can and stay in the cup for as long as we can.

“We’ve a big game coming up against Ballymena now, that’s a big one, we want to get into the semi final.

“It would be brilliant to win the cup two years in a row. It has been a while since the club won it and it would be brilliant to do that again.

“This game is as much about the fans as it is the players, we would love to give them something to cheer about on a big day out. To do that and finish as high up the table as possible would be a great season for us.”

The Bannsiders secured their place in the top six at the weekend without kicking a ball, but Skinner has more loftier ambitions.

“There’s a lot to play for between now and the end of the season,” he said.

“We have closed the gap on Cliftonville and can close it further with a win this Saturday.

“There’s enough games between now and the end of the season and as I say there is plenty to play for, I just want to be back playing and scoring goals.”
