FOLLOWING on from her success at the Leinster Open, Rebecca Cuckoo won a bronze medal in the senior under 63kg and a bronze medal in the junior under 63kg categories at the prestigious Irish Open Judo Championships in Dublin last week.
In the junior competition Rebecca (18) lost in the semi-finals due to a nose bleed, but after treatment she came back to win her next fight and secured the bronze medal.
The Irish Open is Ireland’s premier judo competition and competitors from all over Ireland, the UK and Europe attend this two day event.
A student at the University of Ulster Coleraine, Rebecca trains on Monday nights at the UUC Judo Club and Tuesday and Friday nights at the Coleraine Sports Council’s Club of the Year, Coleraine Judo Club.
She also trains regularly with the NI Judo Squad and the NI Commonwealth Games Judo Squad.
If anyone wants to join her at training, contact the Coleraine Leisure Centre for contact details, or just turn up on the night and receive sound advice from the experienced black belt coaches.
