AGHADOWEY Stockcar Stadium was a hive of activity at the weekend as drivers took to the track in the last meeting before the big race on May Day Monday.
Once again the classes were well supported. New cars were out in the Euro Stocks, some of them were just out of the garage with the paintwork not even finished on some. The Ford Puma on show looked a real racer’s car and has plenty of grunt to give it a chance to win the Championship this year.
Matthew Stirling and Freddie Laffin battled it out between them but it was Matthew who won the final by a nose on the line.
The Lightning Rods threw up another close encounter with Clifford Nevin, Jerome Docherty, Paul Hosie and Karl McFaul all hot on the pace and fighting it out. Liam Irwin was also showing great pace and he will be pushing for major points very soon.
In the end Paul Hosie took the win, but it could have gone to anyone in what is proving to be a very tight championship.
In the Junior Class Peter Stewart and Aaron McGraw battled it out toe-to-toe. Peter, a red roof driver meaning he has to start at the back of the grid, but this did not hold him back. He slugged it out with Aaron, but in the end it was Aaron who grabbed the win, but both these young drivers showed they are up and coming drivers in the sport.
The Banger class was unusually subdued with most racers taking it easy ahead of the big meeting on May Day Monday Bank Holiday.
There is already a big entry list with 17 drivers confirmed and more close to being ready. There will be drivers from all over the province and the UK coming along in what looks like being a great battle for the big money final.
Racing gets underway for the Unlimited Banger North West Super Cup at Aghadowey on Monday 6 May at 2pm.
