Annual Short Mat tournament at Ballybrakes is a big success

Ballybrakes Community Indoor Bowling Club held their Annual Christmas Short-mat tournament over the festive period.

The youngest competitor was Alex Jones from Finvoy aged only 6 played in the pairs along with his dad, Chris.

The singles qualifiers were Chris Wilson Michelin, Brian Rankin Deramore, Willian Boggs Ardstraw, Paul Reid Ballinderry, Matthew Hastings Ballywalter Park, Barry Kane Benvarden, William Service 1st Limavady, John Quinn Ballylennon, P McKeever Drummond, Brian Trimble St Bridgets, Glengormley, Jal Richardson and Joseph Beattie both St Marks, Portadown.

The pairs qualifiers were Curtis and Matthew Hastings Ballywalter Park, Kenny Campbell and Lorenzo Graham Du Pont, Seamus McMath and Ivan Craig Broughshane PFA, Leslie McIntyre and Eddie Jamison Ballinteer, Adrian Carson and Mark McKeown Dunluce, Tommy Mullan and Uel McKeeman Dunluce, Philip Dennison and Noel Graham Loughaghery and Ken Shirley and Aaron Tennant St Colman’s, Dervock.

Young Matthew Hastings was the only player doubley engaged but lost in the semi final of the singles to the eventual winner and the quarter-final of the pairs. The final of the pairs was Kenny Graham and Lorenze Graham of Du Pont and Philip Dennison and Noel Graham of Loughaghery with the latter winning. The result of the singles final came down to the last end between Brian Trimble and Jal Richardson. With Brian led until Jal pulled it back to 9-9 playing the last end. Brian was holding shot but Jal playing his second bowl to precision drove the jack straight into the corner of the ditch with the bowl resting right beside it leaving Brian no shot and no option but to shake hands.
