Castlerock Golf Club’s Junior Team produced a magnificent display to beat Tyneside Golf Club in the Mark Ryder Cup last week.

The competition, which is now in its 22nd year, sees the two teams go head to head in memory of Mark Ryder, who was a member of both clubs.

It has been and continues to be a wonderful experience for the junior players from both clubs and a large number of friendships have been made since the tragedy of the untimely death of Mark.

The longevity and spirit with which the competition is played is both a fitting and appropriate tribute to his memory.

This year’s competition was held at Castlerock.

After battling through the rain on Day One, the scores ended with a 4 - 2 lead to Castlerock in the fourball better ball. Tyneside pulled points back in the fourball to leave it 6.5 to 5.5.

On Day Two Castlerock had the better of things in the Pairs to give them a seven point advantage going into the afternoon singles.

The hosts played some fantastic golf in the afternoon and ran out 20.5 to 9.5 winners in the end.
