The Coleraine Judo Club is proud to a announce that three members officiated at the World Police and Fire Games Judo event at Shankhill Leisure Centre last weekend.
Club Secretary Peter and Rebecca Cuckoo served as table officials throughout the two-day prestigious event. Entries comprised of players from over 30 countries in addition to the UK and Ireland. In addition to Peter and Rebecca, Richard Briggs in his capacity of the NI Judo Federation’s President assisted with the many medal presentations.
Especially noteworthy was the winning of Northern Ireland’s only gold medal which was in the under 100kg category by 5th Dan Mark Montgomery who is a member of the Northern Ireland Fire Service. Mark represented Northern Ireland at judo in 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and again in wrestling in the recent Deli Games. He is now making a bid to be selected for the Glasgow 2014 Games. Mark was presented with his medal by Richard Briggs. Although the Junior Section of the Club will not commence again until Friday 6 September the Senior Cub continues on Friday evenings at Coleraine Leisure Centre 8:15–9:30 all are welcome, with or without prior experience.
