Coleraine’s well established Junior Hockey programme has been on the rise for the last five years and at the weekend the Under 11 team reached the Final of Ulster Hockey’s National Competition.

Thirty-five clubs from throughout the Province took part in the all day event at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club. Coleraine came through unbeaten in a tough group with Portadown, Belfast Harlequins, Owls, Saintfield and Ballymena. In the quarter finals Pegasus where the opposition and Coleraine came away with a hard fought 2-1 win, this brought a semi final against the highly fancied Lurgan and in a game that swung from end to end Coleraine claimed a fantastic 4-3 win in extra time by golden goal.

In the final Coleraine met their regional rivals Rainey and after the game ending scoreless, Rainey won 1-0 by golden goal in extra time.

The team of Kenya, Kia, Eva, Ellen, Emma, Charlotte, Claudia, Stephanie, Anna Beth, Anna and Grace played some great hockey in what was a fantastic day with hundreds of children taking part. Thanks to all the parents for coming to Lisburn to support and also Pearl McCartney for coaching the team.
