The IWIBA finals were hosted by Mrs Noelle Graham in Ballybrakes stadium on Friday 24th – Sunday 26th January.

Club players Ann Smith, Anne McClelland and Jennifer Dowds finished runners-up in the triples and then Dowds and McClelland teamed up with Maisie Stewart and Anne McKillop to finish runners-up in the rinks.

But the club had better success in the Singles when home player Dessa Baird picked up the title with a 21-20 win over Co Antrim player Ann Craig.

Dessa will now represent Ireland at the forthcoming British Isles championships in Stanley next month.

At the same time the Men’s Irish finals were being held in Belfast. Barry Kane and Alistair Kennedy lost out in the final of the pairs, but Gary Kelly scooped the U25 singles title beating club-mate Mark Jones in the final and Steven Falls, Derek Smith and Ian McClure finished 10-9 winners in the Triples final after a five hour game.

They will then also represent Ireland in the British Isles championships in Stanley next month.

The Club recently hosted the regional play-off of the IIBA Under 18 Zone competition between Donegal, North West, Mid-Antrim and Northern Zones.

Both North West and Northern won their first two games with qualification coming down to the winner of their match.

North West got off to a great start and were always ahead, but Northern pulled back with David Stirling’s rink lifting a count of 7. It came down to the very last bowl of the match between S McMullan and A Clyde’s rinks with Northern only needing one shot but unfortunately lost two shots to give the match to North West. It was a great display of bowling from all the children.

The Irish Indoor Bowling Association are holding the Final of the Men’s Inter-Zone Competition in Ballybrakes CIBC on Saturday 22nd February at 2pm.

The Boomer Cup will be contested between Foyle and Oriel Zones. This is the first time the club has hosted the event and it is guaranteed to be a great game between the two zones.
