Coleraine Ladies 1st XI hockey team entertained Larne in the Intermediate Cup on Saturday running out 3-0 winners in the end.

From the first whistle Coleraine put pressure on the visiting team with two shots on goal in quick succession.

Eventually a penalty corner was awarded with the shot going wide.

Soon after Coleraine were attacking down the right-hand side with Kelly Watt pulling the ball into Sue Nutt to win a free hit. Quick thinking by Sue saw her take an auto pass allowing her to drive into the circle to win a penalty corner.

Carol Ann Agnew provided the pass for Sue to shoot on goal with Susan Chapman deflecting the ball into the corner for the first goal of the game.

The defence began to be tested by Larne with Alice McGill and Ciara Richmond carrying out goal saving tackles and several key saves from Rebecca Crowe keeping the score as it was.

Coleraine began to attack again after some fresh legs came on to the pitch with great running from Niamh Lockhart and Grace Bradley allowing Sarah Harkness to win a short corner.

Coleraine sweeper Alice McGill got onto the rebound from the initial shot and scored to make it 2-0 at half time.

Coleraine were determined to keep th emomentum going in the second half and they were knocking the ball about well through Sharon Kennedy, Alex Balmer and Sue Nutt.

Niamh Lockhart and Zoe Campbell made some strong runs into the circle forcing some good saves out of the visiting keeper.

Another good drive forward by Claire Adams helped Carol Ann Agnew win a short corner from which Sue Nutt made it 3-0.

Coleraine made several changes to keep the intensity high and theyu created several great opportunities.

Just before the end Niamh Lockhart outpaced her opposite number to be clear on goal before being cynically brought down. A short corner was awarded and converted before disallowed.

Coleraine returning to league action next week they will hope to continue their impressive run of form of six wins on the bounce.
