The Junior Girls Cross Country team from Loreto College has taken the All Ireland title in a tightly-contested final over a 2500m course in Cork.

Loreto’s Ulster Champion, Abigail McBroom, took fourth place in the All Ireland final, with her team mates Niamh Carr placed twelfth and Molly Brennan twenty-ninth: enough for the team to take first place in Ireland.

There was a tremendous performance on the team by all team members: Abigail McBroom, Niamh Carr, Molly Brennan, Emma McLaughlin, Anna Morrison and Victoria Tsang. The girls, who are all Year 10 students, had taken bronze at Ulster level, but improved on this to return home with an All Ireland title.

Also representing Loreto, Year 11 student Aoife Carr had a great run in the highly competitive Intermediate event.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, paid tribute to all the students who had represented Loreto in the All Ireland Finals, and congratulated the Junior Girls team on this tremendous success.

Mr James also thanked teachers Mr Paul Cunning and Mrs Sheila McBroom who had worked hard with the students in training sessions and had supported them on the day.
