Portstewart holds Burns Supper

Have your say

Portstewart Golf Club held its first ever Burns Supper recently, supported by a full house the evening was sparkling.

Brian Park, Portpatrick GC, was Master of Ceremonies and he was ably assisted by Alec Ross with the Immortal Memory, Tom McLeod, ‘Holy Willie’s Prayer’ and Hugh Aitkin who addressed the haggis.

The Captain of Portpatrick GC Mike Bryant gave a rousing ‘Toast to the Lassies’ only to suffer grievously at the hands of Anne Morrison-Smyth with her well crafted and merciless reply. Anne has recently presented several BBC television and radio broadcasts, a Kist o Words and Santer for example, and with this experience behind her she adjusted her script well to best the combative Mike.

From the Portstewart side Piper Hugh Duncan led in the guests and the haggis. He also played a haunting lament to end ‘The Immortal Memory, Maggie Ferris gave a towering performance, singing Ye Banks and Braes and My Love is like a Red Red Rose before joining up with the Piper and the audience for Auld Land Syne to close the evening.
