A surf competition with a difference will be held at the East Strand, Portrush on March 20th.
This time two brave surfers will be asked to jump on a board at the one time in a fundraising Tandem Charity Surf competition.
This Charity Event will be raising money for the Aware NI a Mental Health Charity focusing on Depression and Bipolar.
Surfing has had positive effect on people and clients of ours with Mental Health issues which is why organisers have chosen this Charity, plus this Professional Organisation really helps people.
“I have planned to run this event for a while now, it is very unique and a first for Northern Ireland,” one of the organisers and partnew at Troggs Surf Shop, Carl Russell told Times Sport .
“It allows competitors and spectators to have fun while highlighting the Charity Aware NI and the great work they do. It will be clear to everyone involved or attending why Surfing has been proven to help people affected by Depression or Bipolar.
“We run custom Surf Programmes that help complement the work this charity does.”
This is a fun competition for teams of two to surf together on the same board performing creative maneuvers on the wave as a team. Boards will be 10ft SUP boards and the same for all teams.
Spectators welcome to watch the First for Northern Ireland Event. Donation buckets will be provided by Aware NI so anyone can donate on the day. Event will be sponsored by Coucon Outdoor.
Heats of four teams will run at one time with Semi Finals and then Finals. Scores out of 10 for each wave with best two waves makes your score.
Intermediate - Advanced surfers can enter. Minimum age 12.
Registration 11 am North Coast Watersports Centre, East Strand, Portrush, entry fee per team £10, and the action will take place between 12-4pm.
