Bakers Doubles success for Vauls and Freeburn

It was Dean Vauls and Adam Freeburn, from Potters Snooker Club, who lifted the Baker Doubles title with some great snooker.

In the final ,they met Martin Crawley and Randal McDonnell from Dunloy Snooker Club, who had reached the final with a tense 3-2 victory over the pair of Gregory Cooke and Ivor Jamieson to set up a showpiece showdown.

The Dunloy duo faced an uphill task in the best of seven final as they were giving their opponents a 40 point start in each frame in the final encounter.

However, they had both been playing well in recent weeks, with McDonnell, in particular, having knocked in a few impressive breaks in the earlier rounds of the Bakers Doubles.

In Freeburn and Vauls, they met two players who have improved a lot over the course of the season, and who were buoyed by an impressive victory over Willie Eakin and Corey Sweeney in their semi final encounter.

In the final, the initial deficit proved too much for the Dunloy duo, particularly on an unfamiliar tables in the Drones, Armoy, where the final was being staged.

Neither Martin nor Randal played anywhere near their best on the night, while their opponents produced some solid match snooker to run out comfortable 4-0 winners and claim the title.

It was an excellent victory for two up and coming players who still have plenty of potential to improve throughout their snooker careers.

Presentation night

The league presentation night will be held this Friday night, April 29th, in the Scenic Inn, Armoy.

All league prizewinners are asked to attend the event on the night.

A three course meal will be served for all the guests on the night.
