Coleraine U18s out of the Cup
COLERAINE under 18's rollercoaster season continued on Saturday when they went down tamely to Harlequins in Belfast, in the second round of the cup.
In perfect conditions for running rugby, Coleraine failed to make the most of their talented backline. The first half was a dull affair, despite Coleraine giving themselves several try scoring opportunities. Harlequins kicked two penalties to Coleraine's one leaving the score at the break 6-0 to Harlequins.
As the second half started Coleraine conceded an early unconverted try. A penalty and another try followed
Coleraine's flying winger Colin Browne was introduced midway through the half and with five minutes to go good work by the pack and quick ball into the midfield saw him score under the posts, leaving the final score 20-8 to the hosts..
Disappointed coach Brian Kneeland hopes his young side will learn from their mistakes and make the most in the matches to come. Owen McIntosh at wing forward was easily Coleraine's man of the match and but for his fringe defence the scoreline might have been worse.
Outhalf Michael Thompson defended manfully and showed glimmers of his attacking abilities, while Colin Browne showed real pace during his brief time on the pitch.
