The home side stole an early march on the visitors as they raced into a 0-7 to nil lead by the 11th minute.

In a blistering start points from Liam McGoldrick (2), Gavin McWilliams (2), Ciaran McGoldrick (2) and Colm McGoldrick had Dungiven very much on the back foot.

The visitors first score arrived in the 13th minute as Conor Murphy pointed from range. Moments later Dungiven’s Niall O’Neill blazed wide of the post as he went for goal from a tight angle.

Eoghan Rua were soon back on the scoring trail as Ciaran McGoldrick pointed a free and then going into the second quarter they really ramped up the pressure with their first goal.

It was a well worked move involving Barry McGoldrick, the impressive young Jack O’Doherty and finally Niall Holly who had burst forward from his full back berth to get on the end of McGoldrick’s pass to fire to the net, 1-9 to 0-1 now the score.

Dungiven managed only their second score of the half as they forced a turnover deep in their own defence to get the ball forward smoothly for Mark Craig to finish, but they still went into the break ten points adrift, 1-9 to 0-2.

The visitors did open the scoring with a point from a Martin Burke free just a minute after the restart. However Eoghan Rua hit back with two of their own as Gavin McWilliams, a free and Ciaran Mullan from play pointed. Dungiven then had a decent spell of pressure but they could only manage two more points.

the visitors were the authors of their own downfall as a poorly directed kick out was intercepted only for the ball to be quickly transferred to Richard Carey to blast to the net eight minutes from time, 2-15 to 0-8 now the score.

This game petered out to its inevitable conclusion with Eoghan Rua still keeping Dungiven out of sight clipping over three points inreply to the visitors’ two over the final few minutes. A good win for Eoghan Rua as they halted a worrying losing streak.

Meanwhile, the Eoghan Rua Senior Ladies team recorded their second League win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Desertmartin last Tuesday evening at Pairc Eoghain Rua.
