John wins takard at Royal Portrush

John McCarter won the PGA Tankard competition at Royal Portrush on Saturday with his score of 40 points.

Steady scoring with no dramatics was the order of the day as John grabbed 21 points out and another 19 coming back for his total of 40.

Second place went to John Bamber, still in form the winner from last week matched the 40 points but had scored more in the early stages so lost out on countback.

Two five and six were birdied to help John to 22 for the nine but no more birds were forthcoming and 18 points was all that could be gleaned from the inward nine.

Michael Clements, one point back on 39, took third place with 19 points out and 20 back while Gerry McAleese claimed the gross with a round of 74.

A good birdie three at the fourth helped Gerry to be out in 38 shots and he added another two, a four at ten and a three at thirteen, to get back in 36 shots.
